In Scotland holm is flat fertile land along river banks, farmers of this type of land took it as their surnane.
Beginning as Holm the spelling changed to Holmes. It was once said in south west Scotland all the Holm (Lang & Love)
families originated in Kilmalcolm before 1600.

Counting the days until the next Holmes Family Reunion: |
The reunion of 2003 is history, and we have had a proposal for 2006. Joan Oldenburger has suggested we may wish to gather in Iron Springs, in southern Alberta, just north of Lethbridge.
As further details become available we will add them here.
We have quite a lot of genealogical information on this site. I have posted descendant "lists" in the classical format. As they become available, we are posting individual biographys of some of our forebears. Click on the "Genealogy Information" link in the left column to get to this information.
Unfortunately, we have been forced to disable the guestbook feature on our web site. It just became too much of a chore removing the nasty postings unscrupulous individuals were putting up with links primarily to pornographic sites. This is a family oriented web site, and this could not be tolerated. This is regretable but there was no other alternative. Dave
